For my November 2021 Blog Post, I wanted to share what Kitty Katrina has been doing throughout the pandemic to keep our flower power vibes alive – it's been a little crazy!
2020 Kinda Sucked
No surprise there! 2020 was awful for many people and for many reasons, including small businesses like Kitty Katrina.
Kitty Katrina is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. In March 2020, Nevada required all non-essential businesses to temporarily close during the initial stages of the pandemic. Since Kitty Katrina was considered non-essential, our online shop / studio was required to close temporarily.
Putting Kitty Katrina on hold meant we were not receiving orders and when you're a small business - this can be painful. Like many small businesses during the pandemic, our team had to find other ways to work during this difficult time until Kitty Katrina could re-open according to Nevada’s guidelines.
Looking Forward
After Nevada gave the “green light” for non-essential businesses to re-open, KittyKatrina.com started to accept orders again in November 2020.
However, re-opening was like starting our business all over again! We needed to build up our online views / sales once more.
Plus, prior to the pandemic, our team would attend events where we would wear / promote Kitty Katrina’s flower hair accessories. Unfortunately, there were no live events to attend towards the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Further, it still was not safe enough to interface in person.
Since we weren’t able to promote our items at events, our team focused on digital promotion, such as advertising on Facebook and Instagram. We also jumped on the TikTok train and used this platform to show how Kitty Katrina flower hair accessories could be styled and worn.
Additionally, Kitty Katrina participated in virtual events where our owner and designer, Kat, would style and share her flower hair accessories. Virtual events provided another avenue for meeting new customers, small businesses, influencers, and flower children around the world!
While 2020 created many setbacks, our team was challenged to learn and grow, exploring new ways to positively benefit Kitty Katrina as a small business throughout 2021.
Most importantly, we’re grateful we followed our state’s guidance and took all the necessary precautions to ensure our team stayed safe and healthy throughout the pandemic so we could continue to spread the LUV with our handmade flower hair accessories.
Show Support - Shop Small
Because Kitty Katrina is a small business and it struggled throughout the pandemic, our team understands the importance of supporting other small businesses.
Not only does shopping with small businesses show those businesses that you appreciate and LUV them but you are contributing to the health and growth of local economies, especially during a global crisis.
Shopping small means you’re making a direct impact on the lives of the people who operate small businesses. You're affecting positive change in this world, even during challenging times. When has spending money ever felt that good?
Therefore, I encourage everyone to remember to shop small whenever possible – your purchase through small businesses makes a huge difference :)
How can you find other small businesses online? I recommend starting with Etsy and Amazon Handmade, which are my platforms of choice for finding small businesses I can purchase from.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support of not only Kitty Katrina — but ALL small businesses — it means so much to us and we are forever thankful for YOU!
LUV,
Kitty Katrina
